To provide an intake air control device for an internal combustion engine capable of providing optimal filling efficiency corresponding to change of fuel pressure for the internal combustion engine provided with a means changing filling efficiency of intake air.
When an engine operation state falls into a state that torque reaches the maximum torque at present engine speed and engine speed does not rise due to running resistance during travel on a hill-climbing road in a common rail diesel engine, fuel pressure is temporarily raised until engine seed rises. A variable nozzle vane mechanism provided in a turbocharger is controlled, accompanying the rise of fuel pressure, to increase filling efficiency by setting nozzle opening small and to set the filling efficiency to a value providing the maximum engine torque with fuel pressure after rise.
