Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enhance the resonant effect in a low rotational speed range and the inertial effect in a high rotational speed range by connecting a primary independent intake passage adapted to be provided for each engine cylinder, and a secondary independent intake passage, respectively to two surge tanks which are arranged side by side.

CONSTITUTION: In a V-type 6-cylinder type engine 10 in which three engine cylinders 12 through 16 and three engine cylinders 22 through 26 are arranged respectively left and right banks 18, 28, a main intake passage 34 is connected to two surge tank sections 38a, 38b through branch intake passages 36a, 36b. Of primary intake ports formed in the engine cylinders 12 through 26, the first to third primary intake ports 40a, 42a, 44a are connected to the first surge tank section 38a while the fourth to sixth primary intake ports 46a, 48a, 50a are connected to the second surge tank section 38b. Further, first to third secondary intake ports 40b, 42b, 44b are connected to the second surge tank section 38b while fourth to sixth secondary intake ports 46b, 48b, 50b are connected to the first surge tank section 38a.
