To provide an intake device for an internal combustion engine enhancing flow of intake gas in a cylinder corresponding to an operation zone and reducing ventilation resistance of intake gas.
The intake device for the internal combustion engine is provided with a drive device having a first and a second driven shafts 6, 7 coaxially arranged and inserted through an air intake passage block 25, having a first and a second valve elements 8, 9 dividing and covering the air intake passage block 25 attached on the first and the second driven shafts 6, 7 respectively, and adjusting effective area of the air intake passage by independently opening and closing the first and the second valve elements 8, 9. Since the first and the second valve elements 8, 9 are opened toward a downstream of the air intake passage block 25 with keeping time difference by the drive device, intake air flow is biased by making open area in the first valve element 8 side than open area of the second valve element 9 side in a zone where the second valve element 8 opens to create strong swirl in the cylinder 3.
