Abstract:
PURPOSE:To permit the timing or the lift of an intake exhaust valve to be varied by a small driving force, by varying the tilt of a lever for supporting the swing fulcrum of a locker arm, by a hydraulic actuator which extends and contracts. CONSTITUTION:An intake/exhaust valve 12 is opened and closed by a cam 11 through a locker arm 17. The back surface of said locker arm 17 contacts with a lever 20, and the position of the swing fulcrum of the locker arm 17 shifts in accordance with the tilt angle of the lever 20, and the opening and closing timing or the lift of the intake/exhaust valve 12 is varied in accordance with the above-described shift. The tilt angle of the lever 20 is adjusted by a hydraulic actuator 25. Therefore, the tilt angle of the lever can be controlled for each valve, by utilizing a suspension time in which the intake/exhaust valve is not lifted, and the controlling driving force is reduced, and the necessity of using a large actuator is obviated.
