Abstract:
In an air intake structure for an internal combustion engine 30 including a cylinder head 32 having an intake passageway 80H defined therein, the intake passageway 80H housing a partition 81 disposed along an intake flow direction F and being divided by the partition 81 into a tumble flow passage 80AH and a main flow passage 80BH, the partition 81 in the cylinder head 32 has a downstream end 81b curved toward a cylinder block 31, the tumble flow passage 80AH has a downstream end 80Ab oriented toward a ceiling surface 32a of a combustion chamber 36, and the tumble flow passage 80AH in the cylinder head 32 includes a first curved portion 82 that is curved concavely toward the cylinder block 31 along a cylinder axis C and a second curved portion 83 that is curved convexly toward the cylinder block 31. The air intake structure increases the degree of freedom of the layout of the passage shape and layout of the tumble flow passage and the main flow passage for intensifying a tumbling flow in the combustion chamber.
