The intake valve 28 has an umbrella portion 45 for opening/closing the outlet of an intake port 26 provided in the ceiling 57 of the combustion chamber 25 of an internal combustion engine. On the radial inside of a valve seal face 45c of the umbrella portion 45 for making close contact with an intake side valve seat 41 provided on the outlet, a swollen portion 52 is formed for changing the direction of intake air flowing from the intake port 26 into the combustion chamber 25. The swollen portion 52 changes the direction of the intake air flowing from the intake port 26 into the combustion chamber 25, for example, to the vicinity of the ceiling 57 of the combustion chamber 25.
