The tool data input by an operator are stored by a tool data storing means 2. A shape data storing means 2 stores the shape data input by the operator. A tool data judging means 3 checks the information of the tool data and the shape data. As a result, when it is judged that machining is impossible, a display device 32 issues the alarm, and the operator is informed of the fact. A tool data candidate retrieving means 4 retrieves the previously registered tool data candidates suited to the machining from a tool file 5 and displayed on the display device 32. In the tool selected from the displayed tool data candidates by the operator, the tool information is automatically reflected to the part program.
