To provide new compounds and their pharmaceutically acceptable derivatives which are useful as ICE inhibitors.

The ICE inhibitors which are new compounds and represented by the formula, wherein various substituents are disclosed in the specification. The compounds can be used for treating or preventing diseases mediated with IL-1, apoptosis, IGI or IFN-γ singly or together with one or more other treating medicines or preventing medicines (such as antibiotics, immunomodulators or other anti-inflammatory medicines). In a preferable embodiment, the compound can bind to the active site of ICE and inhibit the activity of the enzyme.
