Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful as an intermediate for producing corticotropin releasing factor(CRF) antagonist.
SOLUTION: This new compound is shown by formula I (R7 is H, methyl, fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, cyano, hydroxyl or the like; R19 is methyl or ethyl; R4 is H, a 1-4C alkyl, fluoro, chloro, bromo, trifluoromethoxy or the like), e.g. 2,4-dichloro-3,6-dimethylpyridine-1 oxide, and is obtained by reaction of a compound of formula II (A is CR7 or the like; R5 is phenyl, naphthyl or the like; Z is NH, O or the like) with an oxidizing agent such as m-chloroperbenzoic acid or peracetic acid in a solvent such as methylene chloride, chloroform or acetic acid at 0-100°C. This compound of formula I is useful as an intermediate for producing CRF antagonists.
