PURPOSE: To improve the transfer rate of a toner image, by using an intermediate transfer material having a transfer layer of a specific surface roughness in an electrophotographic copying device of the intermediate transfer system.
CONSTITUTION: A toner image attained by developing an electronic latent image on a photosensitive drum 1 by a developing device 3 is transferred to an intermediate transfer roll 35 in a depressing transfer part 6 and is transferred to a copy paper 15 in a transfer and fixing part 12. In this electrophotographic copying method, the intermediate transfer roll 35 where a transfer layer 32 having a surface roughness 0.01W2 times as rough as the average particle size of the used toner is provided on a base material 31 is used. For example, the surface of the transfer layer 32 is so rugged that relations P≥2h, 0.1μ≤P≤100μ, and 0.05μ≤ h≤50μ are satisfied (P is the distance between projecting parts on the surface of the transfer layer and (h) is the depth of recessed parts).
