To provide an intermediate transferring apparatus which can transfer a high quality toner image without having a density unevenness onto a recording sheet by preventing the occurrence of wrinkles on an intermediate transfer belt just after the primary transfer position of the toner image relative to the intermediate transfer belt.
The intermediate transferring apparatus to temporarily receive a toner image formed on an image carrier 1 and transfer the toner image onto the recording sheet P is provided with the intermediate transfer belt 5 turned in the state laid on a plurality of backup rolls 6a to 6d including a drive roll 6a, and a primary transfer roll 7 which presses the image carrier 1 through the intermediate transfer belt 5, and transfers the toner image from the surface of the image carrier 1 to the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 5. A frictional force which acts between the drive roll and the intermediate transfer belt 5 is set to be weaker at the central part than at both sides in the width direction of the intermediate transfer belt 5.
