Abstract:

To securely avoid knocking of an internal combustion engine operated by premix compression self-ignition of mixture.

First mixture wherein first fuel and air is mixed in a ratio that the first fuel and the air is not self-ignited only by compressing in a combustion chamber, is formed in the combustion chamber. Next, second fuel having octane number higher than that of the first fuel is sprayed in a part of an area in the combustion chamber, thereby forming second mixture. By igniting the second mixture formed in that way, the second mixture is burned to make the first mixture self-ignite by compressing. The second fuel is fuel having high octane number, so that combustion start timing of the second mixture can be certainly controlled, and self-ignition timing of the first mixture can be certainly controlled. Therefore, by setting suitable ignition timing, the generation of knocking can be certainly avoided.
