To provide a vehicular control system for preventing the shock of an automatic transmission by properly changing over the number of operating cylinders of an internal combustion engine having a displacement-on-demand mechanism.
Whether an operating oil temperature TATF in the automatic transmission is not lower than a preset lower limit oil temperature TATFL and not higher than a preset upper limit oil temperature TATFH or not is determined (S24). When the operating oil temperature TATF is within this range, the operation of part of cylinders is permitted (S25). At a low temperature where the operating oil temperature TATF is lower than the preset lower limit oil temperature TATFL and at a high temperature where it is higher than the preset upper limit oil temperature TATFH, displacement-on-demand conditions are not established and the change-over of the number of the operating cylinders is not performed, which prevents the shock.
