Abstract:

To provide a controller for an internal combustion engine capable of controlling amount of sucked air when enriching an air-fuel ratio properly and preventing increase of fluctuation of engine output torque and increase of amount of NOx generation when the atmospheric pressure is low.

When enriching an air-fuel ratio, a map value THMAP of target opening of a throttle valve 13 is calculated in accordance with an engine operation condition, and target opening THCMD is calculated from the map value THMAP (S34 to S38). The target opening THCMD is set to a value for controlling the throttle valve 13 in the direction of closing and is controlled in the direction for reducing amount of sucked air. Compensation coefficients KPATH and KTATH are calculated in accordance with the atmospheric pressure PA and the atmospheric temperature TA, and the target opening THCMD is compensated by these compensation coefficients (S39 to S41).
