To avoid the deterioration of operability by supplying intake air amount corresponding to a required engine load when switching a compressed air driving mode to a combustion driving mode.
The control device for the internal combustion engine is equipped with a control valve controlling an inflow of air into a cylinder except for an intake/exhaust valve, and a tank for storing compressed air. The control device for the internal combustion engine has a mode switching means switching a combustion driving mode driven by combustion and a compressed air driving mode driven by making the compressed air flow into the cylinder from the control valve, according to operation conditions; a target inflow air amount deciding means deciding the amount of air flowing into the cylinder from the control valve during the compressed air driving mode; an inflow amount controlling means controlling the amount of air flowing into the cylinder by opening/closing the control at least in an expansion stroke; and a control amount change deciding means executing the control amount change of an intake air amount controlling means during the compressed air driving mode.
