To provide an internal combustion engine that includes a balancer, gear-driven from a crankshaft, in order to suppress vibration of the internal combustion engine, and also, to reduce noise produced according to it, and a control method for the same.
An internal combustion engine includes: a primary balancer 12 that reversely rotates with respect to the rotation of a crankshaft 4 via a gear driving device 11 from the crankshaft 4; an electric motor 14 that reversely rotates with respect to the rotation of the crankshaft 4 via a belt driving device 13 from the primary balancer 12; an auxiliary flywheel 15 on a rotary shaft of the electric motor 14 via a clutch 16; a tensioner 20 for holding the tensile force of a belt 13b; and an ECU 18 that shuts off communication between a high-pressure chamber 31 and a hydraulic passage 32 by closing a hydraulic valve 34 after an accumulator 35, which adjusts the hydraulic pressure of the hydraulic passage 32 communicating with the high-pressure chamber 31, fills oil into the high-pressure chamber 31 when an engine 1 is stopped, fixes the position of a pulley 21, and drives the electric motor 14 as a starter at the start of the engine 1 while leaving the position of the pulley 21 fixed.
