Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control system for an internal combustion engine that includes two types or more of catalysts having reducing NOx in exhaust gas for purification and that improves NOx elimination performance totally while suppressing deterioration of a fuel consumption penalty.SOLUTION: An exhaust emission control system includes: an LNT catalyst; an SCR catalyst; and an FI-ECU that performs a DeNOx operation mode to reduce NOx captured in the LNT catalyst for purification in response to satisfaction of a predetermined execution condition so as to make the LNT catalyst have a reduction atmosphere. The FI-ECU predicts a change of a temperature of the SCR catalyst on the basis of a history related to a traveling state of a vehicle, changes the execution condition to lower execution frequency of the DeNOx operation mode when an increase in the temperature of the SCR catalyst is predicted, and changes the execution condition to increase the execution frequency of the DeNOx operation mode when a decline in the temperature of the SCR catalyst is predicted.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 16
