To obtain the optimum fuel spraying by changing spray penetration distance or spray particle diameter of fuel in accordance with an operation condition of a direct injection type engine to improve fuel combustion performance.
This fuel injection controller is provided with a fuel injection valve 43 for injecting pressurized fuel through a fuel injection hole 69a opened in a combustion chamber, an air injection valve 44 for injecting pressurized air through an air injection hole 69b opened in the combustion chamber, various sensors for setting direction of the air injection hole 69b and the fuel injection hole 69a so that air jet stream collides against fuel spray and detecting an engine operation condition, and an electronic control unit (ECU) 30 for controlling the fuel injection valve 43 and the air injection valve 44 individually. The ECU 30 controls the fuel injection valve 43 based on the detected operation condition and at least either of air injection timing and air injection period by the air injection valve 44 to control spray penetration distance, spray particle diameter, and spray shape of fuel injected from the fuel injection hole 69a.
