Abstract:

To provide an internal combustion engine having a cylinder bank arranged horizontally and an exhaust gas turbocharger.

The present invention relates to an internal combustion engine (1) having horizontally arranged cylinder banks (2, 3) arranged at remote both sides of a crankcase (4) that accommodates a crankshaft (8) of the internal combustion engine (1), and furthermore having at least one exhaust gas turbocharger (10) equipped with an exhaust gas turbocharger shaft (12). Thus, in the internal combustion engine of the type, at least one exhaust gas turbocharger (10) and an axis of the exhaust gas turbocharger shaft (12) are specified to be arranged above the crankcase (4), and to be arranged horizontally at 90° relative to a crankshaft axis (5) respectively. The internal combustion engine of the type is constructed compact and has especially satisfactory thermodynamic characteristics.
