To provide an internal combustion engine having a solenoid driving valve capable of surely attracting an armature to a valve closing electromagnet without power consumption at the initial driving stage of the solenoid driving valve, that is, capable of totally closing the intake/exhaust valves without power consumption.
This internal combustion engine is provided with electromagnetic driving type valve gear mechanisms 30A, 31A having electromagnetic driving mechanisms 30, 31 for driving intake/exhaust valves 28, 29 of the internal combustion engine 1 to open and close by utilizing electromagnetic force, positioning the intake/exhaust valves in the middle position between the totally closing position and the fully opening position during non-operation. In the case of operating the electromagnetic driving mechanisms 30, 31 put in the non-operating state, a piston 22 is moved toward the top dead center, thereby pushing up the intake/exhaust valves 28, 29 by the piston head 22a to totally close the intake/exhaust valves 28, 29.
