To cope with a rapid increase in the reformed gas requirement during the acceleration or the like in feeding the reformed gas generated by reforming the fuel using a reforming catalyst in a reformer 6 to an intake system 2 of an engine 1 from a mixer 4 via a reformed gas storage tank.
The pressure in the formed gas storage tank 3 is detected by a pressure sensor 34, and when the pressure of the reformed gas is dropped below the regular value, the air feed to the reformer 6 is increased and the water feed is reduced in order to raise the fuel reforming temperature above the regular value, and the ratio of the partial oxidation reaction which is the exothermic reaction among the partial oxidation reaction and the steam reforming reaction in the fuel reforming reaction is controlled to increase.
