To provide an internal combustion engine capable of executing the lubrication and the cooling with engine of necessary sand sufficient amount in a high-load state in which engine oil of large amount must be supplied; and capable of recovering the energy of an engine drive shaft to drive a variable oil pump, increasing the engine oil supply while avoiding degradation of the fuel consumption, and efficiently obtaining the required braking force in a state without the fuel not being reliably injected in an operational state of an auxiliary brake, and a method of controlling the same.
The internal combustion engine 10 has a control apparatus 40 for controlling a variable oil pump 20 and an auxiliary brake system 30. The supply of engine oil by the variable oil pump 20 is increased when the operational state of the internal combustion engine 10 is a high-load state, when the actual fuel injection amount Qm (or the indicated fuel injection amount Qt) in the decelerated state is zero, and when the actual fuel injection amount Qm (or the indicated fuel injection amount Qt) in the operational state of the auxiliary brake is zero.
