To provide an internal combustion engine, equipped with a premixing compression self ignition engine capable of its smooth starting by warming up, without having to adopt an ignition method, except compression self ignition and without necessity separately for a motor for motoring and a heating gas supplier, and technique thereof.
In this internal combustion engine, provided with a premixing compression self ignition engine 2 maintaining rotation of a crankshaft 11 by self ignition combustion with a pre-mixture compressed in a combustion chamber 9, an auxiliary engine 3 is provided separately from the engine 2, the engine 2 and the auxiliary engine 3 are connected by the common use of the crankshaft 11, also a communication path 14 for introducing exhaust gas from the auxiliary engine 3 into the combustion chamber 9 is provided, and a switching means 4 alternatively switching a first operating condition supplying the exhaust gas from the auxiliary engine 3 into the combustion chamber 9 and a second operating condition supplying the pre-mixture is provided.
