Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve unitization of a catalyst case and an EGR introduction pipe conduit of an EGR cooler without causing a problem with assembly.SOLUTION: An EGR cooler 17 mounted with an EGR introduction pipe conduit 18 is welded to a boss section 20 of a catalyst case 7 through an L-shaped joint pipe 19. Because the boss section 20 is a foundry piece, the same can be easily manufactured in a shape perfectly fitted into the catalyst case 7. The joint pipe 19 is welded to the catalyst case 17 (the EGR introduction pipe conduit 18) before being welded to the boss section 20 of the catalyst case 7. Because of no obstruction around the EGR cooler 17 when joining the joint pipe 19 and the EGR introduction pipe conduit 18 by welding, full-circled welding can be easily performed with a welding robot. Also, because of a space 45 between the EGR cooler 17 and the catalyst case 7, the joint pipe 19 and the catalyst case 17 can be easily and accurately joined by the welding with the welding robot.
