Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit occurrence of problems resulting from an improper size of a gap between a piston skirt and a cylinder wall in an internal combustion engine having a structure where a diamond-like carbon layer is formed in an outer periphery part of a piston ring.SOLUTION: A piston provided in an internal combustion engine according to one embodiment of the invention has: a piston head; a piston ring attached to an outer periphery part of the piston head; and a piston skirt extending from the outer periphery part of the piston head along a cylinder wall. The piston ring has a diamond-like carbon layer at the outer periphery part. The piston skirt includes a slide part which slides relative to the cylinder wall. The slide part has a resin layer, which prevents heat of the piston from being transmitted from the piston skirt to the cylinder wall, in at least part thereof.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
