To provide an internal combustion engine for a small planing boat capable of preventing supercooling of the internal combustion engine before warmup and efficiently cooling the internal combustion engine after warmup.
The internal combustion engine for a small planing boat is equipped with: a first cooling water passage B through which cooling water introduced from a jet propulsion pump 10 flows toward an internal combustion engine body 20A via an exhaust manifold 44; a second cooling water passage C through which the cooling water introduced from the jet propulsion pump 10 flows toward an exhaust pipe 47a via an oil cooler 100; and a bypass cooling water passage D for branching part of the cooling water flowing from the oil cooler 100 of the second cooling pater passage C and merging it with the cooling water of the first cooling water passage B flowing to the internal combustion engine body 20A.
