Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the magneto-optical recording medium which does not eliminate the need for impressing an external magnetic field except in a place for irradiation with a laser and can improve a linear recording density, a track recording density and a recording processing speed.
CONSTITUTION: A 1st magnetic layer 3 has a compensation temp. Tcomp1 in a temp. range higher than ambient temp. and lower than the Curie temp. Tc2 of a 2nd magnetic layer 4 and is exchange-bonded with the 2nd magnetic layer 4. The 1st magnetic layer 3 is formed of a compsn. which orients in a direction stable to the external magnetic field HE at the ambient temp. and orients in the direction stable with respect to the exchange interaction with the 2nd magnetic layer 4 at the temp. near the compensation temp. Tcomp1 when the external magnetic field H of proper magnitude is impressed thereto. The 2nd magnetic layer 4 is formed of the compsn. to maintain the prescribed magnetization state at the arbitrary temp. from the ambient temp. up to the temp. approximate to the compensation temp. Tcomp1 of the 1st magnetic layer 3.
