In an internal combustion engine provided with an exhaust recirculation device formed in such a constitution that a part of exhaust gas in an engine 1 is recirculated to an air supply side of the engine 1 through an EGR (an exhaust recirculation) pipe 57, an exhaust gas boost-up device 20 is arranged in the EGR pipe passage 57 so as to compress exhaust gas which flows in the EGR pipe passage 57. EGR gas (exhaust gas) is boosted up by the exhaust gas boost-up device 20, a pressure difference between exhaust gas and supplying air is increased, the EGR quantity is increased, and thereby, a NOx generating rate is reduced.
