This internal combustion engine has a variable displacement turbocharger having a turbine and the nozzle vane, and has a link chamber 50 storing the driving mechanism for operating the nozzle vane, being a space provided with the nozzle vane and a space separated by an external part and a wall of a turbine housing and surrounded by a wall surface and having a clearance communicating with the space provided with the nozzle vane and a clearance communicating with the external part of the turbine housing, a fuel adding valve 11 supplying fuel in exhaust gas flowing in the variable displacement turbocharger, and a means for raising the temperature of the link chamber 50 more than when the fuel is not supplied by delaying main injection when supplying the fuel by the fuel adding valve 11.
