To scavenge a remaining gas with a simple structure in an internal combustion engine including a remaining gas scavenging means for scavenging the remaining gas in a combustion chamber in the completion of exhaust process.
The remaining gas scavenging means 20A includes: a sub valve that is provided separately from an exhaust valve 18 to open the valve in the completion of the exhaust process; a passage 23, one end of which connects to the combustion chamber 14 when the sub valve is opened; a sealed case 24 that is provided in an engine body 11 and extended to a cylinder bore 12, into which a piston 13 reaching the top of the combustion chamber is slidably fitted, and that configures a pump 21A along with the piston 13; a first reed valve 25 that is interposed between an end of the passage 23 and the inside of the sealed case so as to be opened when the inside of the sealed case becomes a negative pressure; and a second reed valve 26 that is provided in the sealed case in the engine body so as to be opened when the inside of the sealed case becomes a positive pressure.
