An engine 10 includes intake ports 20A, 20B connected to one combustion chamber 12, fuel injection valves 24A, 24B individually injecting fuel to the intake ports 20A, 20B, and a one-sided intake injection valve 26 provided in one intake port 20A. When carrying out a one-sided intake operation in which an intake valve 30B is closed, if a requested injection amount by the engine exceeds the maximum injection amount of the fuel injection valve 24A, fuel is injected by both the fuel injection valve 24A and the one-sided intake injection valve 26. Thereby, a load region where the one-sided intake operation is applicable can be increased to a high-load side without increasing the injection rate of the fuel injection valve 24A.
