Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of appropriately suppressing the degradation of exhaust emission due to the adhesion of injected fuel onto a wall surface.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine 100 comprises: a piston 2; a compression-ratio variable mechanism 110; a fuel injection valve 8; an ignition plug 7; and a controller 90. The controller 90 functions as an operation control unit operating in a first combustion mode at a time of a catalyst heating request and a top dead center setting unit setting a top dead center position of the piston at the time of the catalyst heating request to be closer to a bottom dead center of the piston than a bottom dead center position of the piston after completion of catalyst warm-up if comparing the positions in the same engine operating state, thereby including these units.
