Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine that can be made compact by shortening a projection length of a cam shaft from a bearing part, thereby bringing a driven gear fitted to an end of the cam shaft close to the bearing part.SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine which comprises a valve train having DOHC structure, and in which an idle gear (61) meshing with both an intake-side driven gear (47) fitted to the intake-side cam shaft (42) and an exhaust-side driven gear (57) fitted to an exhaust-side cam shaft (52) is journaled by a cylinder head 3 coaxially and integrally with an idle chain sprocket (62), and power of the crank shaft (10) is transmitted to the intake-side cam shaft (42) and exhaust-side cam shaft (52) through a cam chain (66) etc., the idle chain sprocket (62) being provided in a position where the idle chain sprocket (62) overlaps the bearing part (3UA) of the bearing wall (3U) and the cam shaft holder (33).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 10
