Abstract:
To provide an internal combustion engine capable of corresponding to the switching of the driving mode in accordance with required load and rotation speed while securing the ignition performance and high compression ratio.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine comprises: a first fuel injection valve 32 for performing fuel injection in an intake passage 30; and a second fuel injection valve 22 for performing fuel injection from the side of a combustion chamber 20 obliquely downward to the center. A cavity is recessed in the central part 15 projecting with respect to a peripheral part 16 on the top face 10a of a piston 10; a groove slope continuous to the cavity by extending along the injection direction of the second fuel injection valve from in part of a peripheral part is recessed; the slope has an uphill inclination toward the cavity; the second fuel injection valve can perform the compression stroke middle stage fuel injection toward the cavity and the compression stroke later stage toward the slope depending on the position of the piston; and the slope has the function to point to an ignition plug 21 by deflecting the compression stroke later stage fuel injection.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
