Abstract:
To more properly form a stratification distribution in an internal combustion engine in which a fuel gas is introduced to a combustion chamber.SOLUTION: A piston 30 of an engine 10a is provided with a cavity 32 on a piston head as its top face. An angle between a cavity inner side face 36 and a cavity bottom face 38 is substantially a right angle or less. In the engine 10a, a fuel gas can be introduced from an intake port 18 toward the cavity 32. The fuel gas introduced from the intake port 18 is collided with the cavity bottom face 38, thus its flowing direction becomes upward while suppressed in diffusion to a horizontal direction by the cavity inner side face 36. Thus a combustible layer 40 is formed in a certain region in a combustion chamber 14 including the ignition plug 28 positioned at an upper part of the cavity 32, and a thin layer 42 is formed in a remaining region.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
