Abstract:
To suppress an increase of the resistance of a gear for driving a balance shaft, in an internal combustion engine having the balance shaft.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine 10 comprises: a crankshaft 11 being an output shaft; and a balance shaft 21 arranged in parallel with an axial direction of the crankshaft 11, and rotationally driven in synchronization with the rotation of the crankshaft 11. A drive gear 13 is attached to one end side in the axial direction of the crankshaft 11. A driven gear 22 engaged with the drive gear 13 is attached to the balance shaft 21 at one end side in the axial direction. Further, a magnitude of backlash between teeth of the drive gear 13 and teeth of the driven gear 22 is larger at a one-end side engagement position D1 side being one end side in the axial direction than at another end side engagement position D2 side being the other than end side in the axial direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
