Abstract:
To make an internal combustion engine more compact.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine 1 includes a cylinder 10 that can rotate around a rotation axis L, a combustion chamber defined in the cylinder, and a driving unit 40. The driving unit includes a piston 50 that is housed in the cylinder so as to slide in a rotation axis direction, and defines the combustion chamber, a slot 60 formed on a peripheral surface of the cylinder, a cam 70 arranged fixed to the periphery of the slot, and a follower 80 extending from the piston to the cam through the slot. The slot is configured so that a relative movement of the follower in a circumferential direction of the rotation axis with respect to the cylinder is restricted while a relative movement of the follower in the rotation axis direction together with the piston with respect to the cylinder is allowed. When combustion is carried out in the combustion chamber, the piston is moved according to a profile of the cam together with the follower, the cylinder rotates around the rotation axis accordingly, and the rotation of the cylinder is taken out as engine output.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
