Abstract:
To provide an internal combustion engine which comprises a water injection device for injecting water to the inside of a cylinder, injects water according to an operation state, efficiently cools the inside of the cylinder, and can perform combustion in the vicinity of a theoretical air-fuel ratio.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine comprises: tumble flow generation means (11a, 60 and 61) for generating tumble flows in a cylinder 10; a fuel injection injector 30 for injecting fuel toward the vicinity of a substantial center region in the cylinder; and a plurality of water injection injectors 32 arranged at both side regions with the fuel injection injector sandwiched therebetween, and spraying water toward the vicinity of both the side regions in the cylinder. An air-fuel mixture of fuel and air circulates by the tumble flows in the vicinity of the substantial center region in the cylinder, misty water circulates by the tumble flows in the vicinity of both the side regions in the cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture and the misty water are held in a stratified state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
