Abstract:
To provide an internal combustion engine capable of improving combustion in a combustion chamber.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine includes a cylinder liner, a cylinder head, an intake valve, an exhaust valve, a piston, and an injector. The cylinder head and the intake valve form a swirl flow in a combustion chamber. The injector injects fuel outward in a radial direction of the cylinder liner from a center in the combustion chamber. The piston includes a peripheral wall 520, and a plurality of protrusion walls 530. The protrusion wall 530 has a facing surface 532 and a reversely facing surface 534. The facing surface 532 is formed in such a manner that momentum of flame B1 returning to the center in the combustion chamber via the facing surface 532 after collision with the peripheral wall 520 is larger than momentum of flame B2 returning to the center in the combustion chamber via the reversely facing surface 534 after collision with the peripheral wall 520.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
