Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine including a variable compression ratio mechanism, capable of suppressing damage of a clutch.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine includes a variable compression ratio mechanism for changing a relative position of a cylinder block to a crankcase. The variable compression ratio mechanism includes: a shaft interposed between the crankcase and the cylinder block; a shaft drive; a lift spring urging the cylinder block; and a rotation stopper stopping the rotation of the shaft at a preset position. The drive includes a clutch for shutting off transmission of a torque to an input shaft when the torque in a rotational direction corresponding to a direction in which the cylinder block separates is applied to an output shaft. At a time of stopping the internal combustion engine, a mechanical compression ratio is reduced so that the rotation stopper can stop the rotation of the shaft and the internal combustion engine is stopped in a state of canceling the shutoff of the transmission of the clutch torque.
