PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate appropriate airflow into a combustion chamber of a cylinder according to an operational condition of an internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine includes a flow controller configured to operate airflow generated in a combustion chamber of a cylinder. The internal combustion engine is configured to, according to an engine speed, an engine load or opening/closing timing of an intake valve or exhaust valve implemented by a variable valve timing mechanism, selectively strengthen airflow toward the intake valve side or airflow toward the exhaust valve side in the combustion chamber of the cylinder, to control the flow controller in order to implement the airflow.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
