Abstract:
To provide an internal combustion engine to remarkably reduce or eliminate NOx present in an internal combustion chamber and effectively prevent the occurrence of knocking.
In an internal combustion engine being of a system wherein at a suction stroke, exhaust gas is caused to effect a back flow through an exhaust port IP, the inner wall surface in the partial region 18-A of an exhaust pipe 18 communicating with an exhaust port OP is covered with a layer 22 formed of an NOx removal catalyst. Or, a piston surface 32 fronting on the combustion chamber BS of the internal combustion engine or a cylinder S surface fronting on the combustion chamber is covered with a layer 34 formed of the NOx removal catalyst.
