Abstract:
The internal combustion engine system has an internal combustion engine (1) with a supercharger assembly (3, 10) and a closed steam circuit (16) with a heat exchanger (9), a steam turbine (15), a condenser (17) and a feed pump (18). Due to the fact that the heat exchanger acting as vaporiser and superheater is arranged upstream of the exhaust turbine (10), in the exhaust gas direction of flow, the temperature difference between exhaust gases and steam at the heat exchanger is greater and the inlet temperature at the exhaust turbine (10) is lower. Less expensive materials can therefore be used and greater efficiency achieved. The heat exchanger can be compactly attached to the engine. An auxiliary steam boiler can be provided in order to increase the power output of the steam turbine.
