Title:
INTERNAL FORMING OF MIXTURE TYPE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS53122005
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1436751 IC engine air intake passages H LIST 7 May 1973 [10 May 1972 20 June 1972 15 Sept 1972(2)] 21578/73 Heading F1B The intake passages 30, 30' to the intake valves 22, 22' of each cylinder 44 of an engine with internal mixture formation, e.g. a diesel engine, are respectively a passage extending substantially in a direction which includes an acute angle with a plane normal to the cylinder axis 26 and a passage having a helical terminal portion 41 adjacent the valve 22'. The portions of the inlet passages upstream but adjacent the terminal portions each extend in a direction which is within a respective plane substantially tangential to the surface of an imaginary cylinder concentric to the axis 26 and including the valve axes 24, 24'. The air flows through the inlet passages provide air flows rotating in the cylinder about its axis which impinge to provide a resultant rotating flow including turbulence. The inlet passages may extend from a side wall 31 of the cylinder head 21, the top wall (48), Figs. 5 to 7 (not shown), or one from a side wall and the other from the top wall.
