Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate a filter at both modes of an intra-field node and an inter- field node by selecting a space interpolation direction in the direction of a picture edge.
SOLUTION: Blocks R1-R3, L1-L3 and C provided for the interpolation filter 6 measure the space correlation degree between picture elements on a processing window and detect the existence of light-dark edges. The block R1-R3 are outputted to a first best direction circuit 7 and the clocks, L1-L3 are outputted to a second best direction detection circuit 8. The outputs BR, BTR, BL and BTL of the first and second best direction detection circuit 7 and 8 are supplied to a third best direction detection circuit 9 and the output of the block C is supplied to the detection circuit 9. The output of the best direction detection circuit 9 is supplied to the circuit 10 and the circuit 10 calculates the average value of the picture element in the processing window PW, which follows the maximum space correlation direction, namely, an interpolation value of the picture element following the maximum space correlation direction.
