To provide an inverse opal structure having a high structural regularity together with excellent weatherability, heat resistance and chemical resistance.

The inverse opal structure including polysaccharides is produced by a template method using as a casting mold a colloidal crystalline, i.e., a self-assembly of monodispersed colloidal particles. Processes for producing and methods of using the structure are also provided.
