Abstract:

To provide an iodine-containing carbon slide film that is excellent in terms of running-in, debris embedment and load-bearing capacity notwithstanding a carbon-based slide film and also has good anti-scoring and low friction properties.

The carbon-based slide film 8 arranged on the surface of a substrate 4 contains iodine. The slide film 8 is produced with, for example, a plasma CVD method. The iodine-containing slide film 8 is softer than a DLC (diamond-like carbon) film and has a reduced coefficient of friction because of the lubricity of iodine. Thus, the slide film 8 has excellent properties in terms of running-in, debris embedment and load-bearing capacity in spite of the fact that it is carbon-based slide film and yet has good anti-scoring and low friction properties.
