To provide an ion exchanger which uses a porous ion exchange membrane, has sufficiently large ion exchange capacity and does not have problem of treated water contamination due to elution of a packed material or the like and to provide an ultrapure water manufacturing apparatus using the ion exchanger.
A laminated body 6 which is made by alternatively laminating porous cation exchange membranes 3 having a cation exchange function and porous anion exchange membranes 4 having an anion exchange function, is housed in a vessel to constitute the ion exchanger. Water to be treated is made to pass the laminated body in a laminating direction. Further a clarifying membrane 5 is laminated on the laminated body at the most upstream side or at the most downstream side in a water flowing direction. The ion exchanger is installed in a secondary pure water system to constitute the ultrapure water manufacturing apparatus.
