To provide a method for producing an ion exchange fiber into which sufficient amounts of a sulfonic acid group and a carboxy group to remove an amine smell and a basic gas smell in wide ranges from low concentrations to high concentrations are introduced and a fibrous structure using the ion exchange fiber.
The method for producing the ion exchange fiber includes impregnating a raw material fiber having 10.0 millimol/g of carboxy group with a sulfonic acid group-containing monomer in an amount prepared in advance and polymerizing the monomer so as to introduce 0.5-4.0 millimol/g of sulfonic acid group and 2.0 millimol/g of a carboxy group to the raw material fiber. The textile structure is obtained by adding 95 mass% of a sulfur-based gas absorbing fiber having a sulfur-based gas deodorant component composed of a metal compound and/or an acidic gas absorbing fiber having a basic group to the ion exchange fiber.
