To improve catalyst activity, and improve the quality of a polymer.SOLUTION: Ion-exchanging layered silicate particles have the following characteristics (i), (ii) and (iii). Characteristic (i): specific surface area of 250 m2/g or more and 700 m2/g or less, characteristic (ii): a pore volume at a pore diameter of 10-300 nm measured by a mercury press-in method of more than 0.128 mL/g and 0.600 mL/g or less, and characteristic (iii): when a content (mol/g) of a silicon atom is represented by [Si] and a content (mol/g) of an aluminum atom is represented by [Al], the following expression (1) is satisfied.
